Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Porto’s Danilo Pereira this summer and the midfielder could be available for just £18million. The 28-year-old’s contract is due to expire in 2020 and therefore the club are ready to cash in.

The Gunners are lacking numbers in midfield and have been unable to control matches from the middle of the park.

Dani Ceballos is set to return to Real Madrid at the end of the season after an underwhelming spell in north London.

The future of Matteo Guendouzi is also in doubt after he was dropped from the squad against Southampton.

The Frenchman escaped a ban for grabbing Brighton forward Neal Maupay round the throat.

He is currently deciding whether to accept Atletico Madrid’s contract extension.

Partey is a childhood Arsenal fan and is therefore keen on a move to the club.

However, Arsenal are set to miss out on Champions League football for the fourth season running.

The Ghana international wants to play in the Champions League and ultimately that is likely to have a say on his final decision.

Arteta recently outlined the club’s transfer plans and insisted they will look to recruit at the right price if the player fits the profile he is looking for.

“We are trying to put a plan together to improve what we have,” he said.

“If we stand still that gap will become bigger and bigger. I haven’t come here to accept that.

“The challenge for us is to improve the players we already have and find ways to improve the squad in the right positions to give us the best possible chance to compete at that level. It’s getting higher and higher every year.

“The plans I had obviously weren’t considering the coronavirus and all the side effects that has, but we know what we have to do to improve the team.

“Whether we’ll be able to the way we want will be a different story, but my focus right now is just to improve the team, get the results that we need to give us the best chance possible to get into Europe and convince the players this is the right environment for them.”
