British Grand Prix 2020 qualifying results LIVE: Hamilton smashes Bottas record after spin | F1 | Sport

British Grand Prix qualifying gets underway in an hour as Lewis Hamilton goes in search of a third pole position of the 2020 F1 season. The reigning champion started at the very front of the grid at the Styrian and Hungarian races and will once again have to fight off Valtteri Bottas.

Q1 Results

16) Kevin Magnussen 17) Antonio Giovinazzi 18) Kimi Raikkonen 19) Romain Grosjean 20) Nicholas Latifi

George Russell maintains his 100 per cent record of out-qualifying his team-mate as Nicholas Latifi ends up at the back of the grid for Sunday’s race.

The Williams driver, though, will soon be under investigation for potentially failing to slow down under yellow flags following Latifi’s spin.

Haas duo Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean, as well as Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen, join Latifi in being eliminated.

Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas tops the time sheets in Q1, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

Q2 Results

11) Pierre Gasly 12) Alex Albon 13) Nico Hulkenberg 14) Daniil Kvyat 15) George Russell

Lewis Hamilton’s Q2 spin threatens to plunge him into a qualifying nightmare – just as Valtteri Bottas sets a new lap record.

The incident sees the session red-flagged with the F1 champion yet to set a lap time and facing an unexpected elimination.

Hamilton recovers, though, to secure a place in Q2 as Bottas leads the field with a stunning 1:25.015 lap – three tenths quicker than his team-mate.

Alex Albon suffers more Q2 disappointment for Red Bull, while stand-in Racing Point driver Nico Hulkenberg is forced to settle for 13th place.

Q3 Results

Results will appear once the session takes place.
