Kate Middleton shock: Prince William’s wife broke royal schooling tradition with children

Kate Middleton and Prince William have been married since 2011. They have three children together and have followed many Royal Family parenting traditions. However, they made a big change when it came to choosing a school for their children.

Kate and Prince William have followed some Royal Family parenting traditions.

They will often dress their children in traditional clothing and let them appear for photo calls.

However, the royal couple seemed to make their own decision when picking a school for their children.

While there are no official royal schooling rules, many members of the family have been educated at boarding school.

Royals including Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Zara Tindall were all educated away from home at Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte, however, are educated near their home, at St Thomas’ school in Battersea.

When picking a school, Kate may not have worried about what was done by royals before, according to Murray Morrison, leading education expert and the founder of

Speaking to, he said: “Just like any other family, Kate likely chose a school – whether private or state – by looking at the options, considering the quality and style of education that each school offers and considering other factors like location, friends and family and reputation.

By doing this, Murray explained Kate and Prince William have helped the Royal Family “evolve”.

“It suggests that the Royal Family continues to evolve,” Murray told

“It shows that they are not hide-bound and simply repeating choices handed down over generations.”
