Melania Trump news: FLOTUS triggers social media storm with women’s health week tweet | World | News

The First Lady posted the Twitter message to commemorate National Women’s Health Week, which took place between May 10 and May 16. The yearly event is a weeklong health observance led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health (OWH). It serves as a reminder for women and girls to make their health a priority, a message that particularly resonates during the current coronavirus pandemic.

Melania posted her message of support on Saturday, which said: “This #NationalWomensHealth Week & beyond, we will continue to invest in women & girl’s social, emotional & physical health.

“Let’s continue to support & protect their well-being.”

However, her critics were quick to point out that her husband’s administration had cut spending on women’s health.

One wrote: “Then why, if you do actually care about women’s health, has your husband continued to cut funding for Planned Parenthood.

“Hypocrite much?”

Another fumed: “Obvious you and your husband aren’t on the same page.

“But it seems that every Trump member is playing & presenting different roles to the public to try and confuse what they are really doing.

“But because you’re all greedy, we know what the Trumps are about and it’s not the people or USA.”

While a second said: “Thank you First Lady Melania Trump for being the beautiful example you are to all women.

“We appreciate you and your inspiration to Be Best.”

It comes after Melania was strongly criticised for flouting her own health recommendations, by not wearing a face mask during a ceremony for girl scouts at the White House on Friday.

Just five weeks ago Melania took to social media to encourage Americans to wear cloth face coverings in public settings and practice social distancing when possible.

However, she appeared to be going against her own advice on Friday.

Social media users responded to Melania’s tweets with outrage as she did not wear any face coverings.

One user responded: “How about being compassionate enough toward the Girl Scouts to wear a mask?”

While another user from Florida posted: “Why aren’t you wearing a mask?”

On the same day, Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump was spotted wearing a mask.
