Nico Hulkenberg opens up on ‘special’ 24 hours after Racing Point British Grand Prix call | F1 | Sport

He says it helped to see so many familiar people as he returned to their Silverstone base and he’s hoping to deliver more for them after seeing team-mate Lance Stroll top the time sheets in FP2.

“Many of the old faces are here, so that helps obviously to feel home and going to a place with people that you know, that’s definitely a small benefit,” Hulkenberg said.

“I tried to take it step-by-step today, get up to speed with the car, understand it. It is quite different to last year. Every car takes time to inhale everything, understand it, to know how you have to drive it and learn. But, obviously, there’s more time to do it tonight.

“There’s huge potential, the car is massively fast. I didn’t exploit the soft tyre that well, I think there was a bit more in the bag. I need to use that tyre better.

“That’s what we’re going to work on, obviously, through the night and try to get the best possible from the car.”
