Princess Anne news: Royal could give up title to Princess Charlotte if William is King

The senior title is one that has only been held by seven members of the Royal Family before her.

The honour is usually given to the eldest daughter of the monarch although it is not given automatically.

Prince Charles is first in line to the British throne which means he will probably become King one day.

It is also likely that his eldest son, Prince William, will take the throne in the future.

Will Princess Anne lose her title?

Princess Charlotte is the only daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

If Prince William was the monarch, Princess Charlotte could get the title of Princess Royal.

It would be up to the monarch to decide if this were to happen.

Body language expert Judi James explained the Queen has a similar relationship with Princess Anne when in public as she did with Prince Philip.

Judi explained: “Of all the Queen’s children, Princess Anne has always been both the closest and the most similar in terms of personality to her father Prince Philip.

“Her low-key, unfussy, immensely solid role in the Queen’s public life makes their relationship look similar in many ways to that between the Queen and her husband.”

The royal line of succession – who outranks who?

The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.

It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.

Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.

Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.

The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.

Prince Charles, 71, is currently second-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 38, his oldest son.

Then comes Prince William’s children, George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 35. Prince Harry is succeeded by his son Archie Harrison, born in May 2019.
