Lewis Hamilton won the first ever Formula One Tuscan Grand Prix in a thrilling race as Alex Albon of Red Bull also managed to get his first podium. The race was stopped twice after a chaotic safety restart which saw four cars crash out as well as a dramatic Lance Stroll incident later on in the race.

Hamilton lost the lead to Valtteri Bottas at the initial start but quickly got back to the front from the second standing start.

After the second red flag Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo leapfrogged Bottas effectively handing the world champion the victory.

The Mercedes man eventually did manage to finish second while Albon for Red Bull got his first podium.

Ricciardo ended up in fourth with Sergio Perez fifth and Lando Norris in sixth for McLaren.

On his first podium Albon said: “It was good obviously it is a while to get here but it was a tough one. I had to work for it. I am happy. I can breathe. It is nice to be here.

“It was brutal, especially the high speed in sector two.

“It is more adrenaline going in my body than anything else. I am happy. We couldn’t get off the line so most overtakes had to be on circuit.

“We can do moves like that. It is fun to drive.”
