UFC Fight Night LIVE: Smith vs Teixeira results, updates and more from Jacksonville | UFC | Sport

Hello, and welcome to Express Sport’s live coverage of UFC Fight Night 175: Smith vs Texeira. This morning’s card – which takes place behind closed doors at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida –  will be the promotion’s second event since the global coronavirus lockdown.

  • Topping the bill is a light-heavyweight showdown between former title challengers Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira, both of whom are looking to get back into contention to rematch 205lb champion Jon Jones.
  • In the co-main event of the evening, perennial light-heavyweight contender Ovince Saint Preux will move up to heavyweight to take on Ben Rothwell.
  • Rising lightweight prospect Alexander Hernandez will lock horns with the in-form Drew Dober.
  • Follow all the action, results and latest from the VyStar Arena below.

UFC Fight Night Live – 01:00am – We move to the lightweight division

Up next is a lightweight bout between Gabriel Benitez and Omar Antonio Morales Ferrer. Benitez, who was meant to lock horns with Lerone Murphy on the cancelled UFC London card in March, will be moving up from featherweight for this contest.

So it’ll be interesting to see how he’ll perform having had not had to cut down to 145lbs.

UFC Fight Night Live – 00:46am – Boom goes the dynamite!

Brian Kelleher has just put Hunter Azure to sleep in devastating fashion.

A huge counter left hook sent Azure to the canvas, with Kelleher closing the show with some well-placed ground strikes.

That’s two prospects in a row Kelleher has taken out. I foresee a big-name fight on the horizon for the New Yorker.

UFC Fight Night Live – 00:38am – Bantamweights on deck

A men’s bantamweight bout between Hunter Azure and Brian Kelleher is currently underway. Round 1, which was fought at a ferocious, has just finished.

Both men had their moments, but I give the slight edge to Kelleher.

UFC Fight Night Live – 00:15am – The Vanilla Gorilla is back

Chase Sherman has just won his UFC return in emphatic fashion. ‘The Vanilla Gorilla’, who was released from the promotion in September 2018, looked better than ever against UFC newcomer Ike Villanueva.

The former Island Fights product showcased crisp and sharp striking on his way to registering a second-round TKO.

That was by far his best performance inside the Octagon and I for one can’t wait to see him back in action.

UFC Fight Night Live – 00:00am – Conor McGregor shows his class

Conor McGregor has put his rivalry with Nurmagomedov to one side to wish the Russian’s father – Abdulmanap – a speedy recovery and exit from hospital.

“Praying for the recovery of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov,” ‘The Notorious’ tweeted. “A man responsible for more World champions, across multiple fighting disciplines, than we even know. A true martial genius!

“Very saddened upon hearing this news tonight. Praying for the Nurmagomedov family at this time.”

UFC Fight Night live – 11:35pm – Some sad news to start us off

The father of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, Abdulmanap, is reportedly in critical condition in a Moscow hospital.

According to a Sport Express, the Dagestani coach – who was first taken late last month – is in a coma.

“Abdulmanap is in a bad condition, he’s in Moscow and in a coma,” a source said to Sport Express on Wednesday. “They didn’t treat him properly in Dagestan, and some complications arose.

“They flew him to Moscow, where he is now in a military hospital. He’s on his own there, they won’t allow family [to visit]”.

We’ll keep you updated on this developing story as and when we receive updates.
