Universal Credit UK: First payment after claim may be less than estimated due to this rule | Personal Finance | Finance

It’s down to the claimant as to how many months they pay it back over – but, under current rules, it must be paid back within 12 months.

“You do not pay interest on it – the total amount you pay back is the same,” the government website confirms.

It means that those who opt for an advance may notice their estimated payment differs to the actual amount they receive.

An example of this is included in the government guidance on the matter.
